Somali Prime Minister and President discuss formation of the cabinet

Somali Prime Minister Haza Abdi Barre met with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud at Villa Somalia on Wednesday, following his consultation meetings with civil society groups on the formation of their administration.

Barre briefed the President about selecting an inclusive and quality government that can respond to the priority issues for the development of the Somali community, the office of the Prime Minister said in a Facebook post.

On Tuesday, Somali Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre held separate meetings with women and business leaders to discuss strengthening their role in governance, peace and reconciliation.

The PM listened to the women’s group’s suggestions regarding the formation of the government. At the same time, he and the business community discussed the role of entrepreneurs in developing the economy and strengthening security.

Barre urged the business leaders to continue supporting the new government to assist in tackling the drought.

Somali Parliament demanded on Monday that Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre select his cabinet within ten days.

Barre was expected to name his cabinet by Monday, which marked 30 days after his appointment, but he said he is still seeking consultations and speaking with candidates.
